Today I had an excellent swim. It was really hard, so hard that when I got home I was absolutely famished. All I could think about was getting something in my belly. This made me think of something amazing. In the Bible, there is a story of Jesus feeding large crowds that were starving because they had been listening to Him preach all day. In Matthew 15:32 NIRV it says, Then Jesus called for his disciples to come to him. He said, “I feel deep concern for these people. They have already been with me three days. They don’t have anything to eat. I don’t want to send them away hungry. If I do, they will become too weak on their way home.” They had been with Him for three days, they were hungry enough to make Jesus concerned. If they went home without food they would become weak. This is amazing.
One author said it this way, "Jesus was an extraordinary teacher. Without use of modern-day technology, He was able to captivate His audience. At times His skills as a teacher drew such a crowd that they created serious problems for Him. People were mesmerized that they forgot about the basic necessities of life." Stein, Jesus the Messiah, 123-124 This is unreal, the people listening to Jesus are so enthralled that they are not even concerned with their famishing hunger. They cherish His words so much that they would rather listen, then eat. Matthew 7:7-8 7 “Ask, and it will be given to you. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. 8 Everyone who asks will receive. The one who searches will find. The door will be opened to the one who knocks. Let us pray today that we will desire Jesus so much that He will take the place of our earthly desires.
