As humans, it is our nature, given by our creator to think and to ask why. We ask questions. We search. It is who we are. I believe that God programmed us with this. But believe it or not, sometimes we need to simplify.

Sometimes we are looking so hard to find something new. More ghosts in the closet, and things that may not even exist that we miss out on the main point. Today I want to challenge you to simplify.

Often when I meet people I look up to and respect, I like to ask some specific questions.
About a year ago, I was talking to a rather influential pastor whom I respect. When I was talking to him I asked one of those questions. "What are you reading?" His response blew me away. Nothing, he said. This was interesting because I have always heard that good leaders and good preachers are well read. So I was intrigued.

"What do you mean nothing?" was my next question.

He explained that he had been reading so much, that he needed to read nothing. He explained further that it wasn't that he was actually reading nothing. But that for one year he was going to read nothing but the Bible.  He said that he had been reading so much that he needed to get back to the source. I loved that.

Sometimes we need that, to purge. To stop and focus, just on Jesus. So today, do that. Read Matthew Chapter 12 and see what you can glean from sitting at Jesus' feet. If you need to read it intentionally slow. Or read it a few times. Pray before you read, and grow from the source.
