Leadership is often misunderstood. We think that because someone runs a company or a country that they are a leader. We think that if someone has confidence that they are a leader. The reality is that we all lead at some point. Leaders have influence, and people follow them. Not necessarily for the right reasons. But when a leader makes a decision people follow. At some point, you have influenced someone. At some point, someone, or a group of someones made a decision because of your influence. You were a leader. The interesting thing is that although we have all lead, we have all also followed. Although anyone can lead, not everyone is a great leader. To be a great leader you have to realize something. Leadership is not about you. It's about those that follow you. Which leaves a big responsibility. Where are you going to lead them? How are you going to lead them?
Matthew 28:16-20 is known as the great commission in which Jesus calls His people to lead people to Him. Jesus didn't just use words He led by example. Jesus came to serve. Right before His death, He sat down for the last meal with His disciples. In John 13, He served His disciples by washing their feet. This was the job of the lowest servant. Yet Jesus took on the humility of washing their dirty feet. Luke 19:10 says, "for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Jesus lead different than most leaders, He led with a servants heart. He led to help the people. He was a true leader that lead for something He felt to be greater than even Himself. He led for your life. Jesus led in servanthood because he felt you where worth serving. Think about that for a minute. God, the maker of the universe, though that you were worth serving.
