Today we drove, for what seemed like forever. Arrived at a hotel, settled in and then I attended the first meeting of a conference, meant to equip and train pastors for the future of ministry in our area. For the next four days, we will refresh, learn and be fed. All of us need to be nourished spiritually. We all need to be fed. Sometimes people ask me, "who feeds you?" As a pastor, we are always expected to bring messages of love, leadership, faith, and growth to our churches. But some may then wonder who feeds a pastor. The reality is that all of us need to be fed. Sometimes I find my spiritual food at conferences. But the real nourishment comes from what you do daily. I get a great blessing at events, because of what happens before the events, every day.
I am a triathlete. Often I get the response when people here that I am a triathlete of, "how do you do that?" But the reality is that I don't do a triathlon the day of the race. I do a triathlon daily for months before the race. A race is finished in the training that takes place before it. A spiritually deep person is never built or fed just from one day at church or from one great pastor. They are spiritually rich because of what they do daily. Every day I am spiritually fed. Most days I put down my Bible or I end my prayer time with God, spiritually revived, refreshed and more in love with Jesus. That is where I get fed. If you would like to have a deeper walk, a better devotional time. Stay tuned. But for now, know that the most important component of my devotional life is simply, consistency over time. Dave Ramsey says, ''FOCUSED INTENSITY over TIME multiplied by GOD equals UNSTOPPABLE MOMENTUM." This is how you grow a devotional walk. Focus your intensity on your relationship with God. For my devotions today: I am reading a random Psalm, Proverbs 13, and Matthew 4-5 join me if you like and start building momentum.
