Epic Thought: The average American Adult spends 33 hours a week watching tv according to www.nydailynews.com In contrast religionnews.com says that Americans are lacking in there time with God. "If they do read it (the Bible), the majority (57 percent) only read their Bibles four times a year or less. Only 26 percent of Americans said they read their Bible on a regular basis (four or more times a week)." With numbers like this, it's no wonder our culture is going downhill, and morality has been put to the wayside. If we want a better life, we are not going to find it on our tv's we will find it by investing our time wisely. Read today's blog.

Epic thought: In this story, the rich young man, runs to Jesus, he then throws himself at Jesus' feet. This is an amazing perspective. In Jewish society the rich were looked at as thought they blessed by God. “Popular Jewish morality was simple. It believed that prosperity was the sign of a good man. If a man was rich, God must have honored and blessed him. Wealth was proof of excellence of character and of favor with God.” William Barclay. Here we have a rich man, a "favored" man, falling at a homeless mans' feet, asking him for advice. This is contrary to the normal way of life. To Jesus, the young man was not favored by his money. In fact, it was his money that was keeping him from the real epic walk with God. He was not willing to make the sacrifice of his heart. Read: Mark 10:17-27 Pray: Spend some time in prayer praising God for who He is. Pray about what God wants to reveal to you from this passage. Is there something in your life that is keeping you from God? Ask God to give you the strength to let go of things that may keep you from Him. Journal: Write down at least 5 things that you can think of that you have been blessed with. Write down a prayer for five people today that need to walk with God. What was the difference between this young man, and the young ruler from yesterday's lesson? 1. Read: John Chapter 4.
2. Pray: Spend 5 minute talking to God, ask Him to reveal what he wants you to learn through this story. Spend another 1 or 2 asking God to give you understanding. Spend a few more minutes praying for three specific people that you know need love or help. 3. Journal:
One of the first and most important steps to having an epic walk, and being fulfilled, is having a relationship that will give you true happiness. That is a relationship with Christ. If you have never had a relationship with Jesus before or if you have been a Christian for many years having something to guide your time with God is of great benefit. If you're not sure that you want a relationship with God, just give it a try. It's worth at least a few weeks to see what happens. Give it a try, and go from there. If you're not happier, stop. But who knows, something might just happen.
Every day there will be a "assignment" posted in the daily walk. These assignments are meant for you to dig deeper, and to start or continue your epic walk. They are here for you to have some guidance that will help you grow in your walk. There will be three areas of focus given each day; 1. A focus on something from scripture. Sometimes this will include a supplemental thought from an outside author. 2. A prayer suggestion, that will help you walk closer to God. 3. A journaling thought. This section is not a diary, it is a time for you to reflect on your relationship with God in a written prayer. |
